Longitudinal Study
Obtaining sponsorship for the Longitudinal Study of what kinds of interventions are likely to have the greatest impact in raising student participation, engagement and career choice continues to be the main thrust of the Working Group. A reply is still awaited from John Holman (National STEM Director) regarding his advice, although evidence continues to accumulate regarding the need for such a study.
Adam Afriyie MP (Shadow Minister for Universities, Innovation and Skills and on the Select Committee for Children, Schools and Families) invited FJM and Peter Kutnick to meet with him having been told about the proposed study. At the meeting on 22nd January, he expressed frustration that no evidence exists upon which to make decisions about careers activities, and congratulated us on proposing this much-needed study. He will help us explore possible funding sources.
David Good of the Cambridge-MIT Institute (CMI) read about the Longitudinal Study concept in our recent Munich Paper, and has expressed interest in working with the EPC and EEA to develop a proposal. Dik Morling and FJM will be meeting with him shortly to explore the possibilities.
