Assessment of Learning Outcomes Working Group Report  - July 2008

The ALOE Group met on 27th May and considered the following matters:

Case Studies

Work continues in assembling case studies of good assessment and curriculum delivery practice encountered during accreditation visits. The cases studies will be shared with the EAB.

Definition of Key Terms

In response to requests, the group has assembled all the various definitions of key terms used in this area and have homed in on a single preferred definition in each case. These will be placed on the ESC website and disseminated at workshops, etc, as appropriate.

Workshops

Following the success of the IMechE workshop, the ESC have been invited to participate in assessment workshops mounted by the EAB and the ICE.

QUESTE VET

A representative of this initiative attends the group meetings and Fiona Martland and Richard Shearman attend QV meetings. A separate report is given elsewhere.

‘EASIMAP’

The ALOE Group acts as the steering group for this JISC-funded project which is aimed at recording assessment across an entire course. The project has been extended, but will finish in August 2008.

ALOE Conference

As only six abstracts had been received by the closing date, the viability of the conference was reviewed. It was agreed to reduce it from the original two days down to one day (27th November) and to focus more on disseminating what the group has learnt. Potential keynote speakers have been identified and are being approached.
