Ethics and Accreditation
A presentation has been put together as a resource for the committee members. Departments, through their accreditation committees will be offered guidance in identifying ethical issues into their curricula. In particular the testing of the learning objectives was identified as a priority.
Workload Management
New partnerships are being explored. Partnering with Leeds Interdisciplinary Ethics Applied Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning had been investigated.
Future event planning
Ethics workshop –June 2009
It had been agreed that future workshops would cater for new and experienced teachers at the same time. There should be a lot of opportunities for participants to speak with each other and to talk about their experience. There should also be significant time for people to introduce themselves and to talk about issues in their own institutions as this worked well at the new teachers’ event. As with the experienced teachers’ Workshop, presenters should be invited to talk about the different ways that they have incorporated ethics into the engineering degree.
Conferences
A paper has been submitted to the Society for Philosophy of Technology conference ‘Reflective Engineering’. The title of the abstract is Bolted on or systemic? How engineering ethics differs from philosophical and medical ethics. The conference is scheduled for July 2009.
